Are you blogging for your business? If so – that’s awesome. Blogging is a super strategy to build your authority in your niche.
But, if you’re in business for yourself, don’t mistake that for being in business BY yourself!
There are two ways to approach getting readers & marketing your content:
#1 By your own efforts
Sure you can hang out online all day and shout, “I’m awesome! Check out my blog!” and you might get a few people to stop by and read or listen… building your blog readership painfully slow… one… reader… at… a… time…
If you’re trying to build your blog alone, hoping somehow to reach a BIG audience and make a difference, you’re taking the SLOWEST and least likely to succeed approach.
#2 Via the power of tribes
I recommend you:
- Start building your own tribe
Each of us can attract a community of others AKA our TRIBE. These are the folks who LOVE our content. Our die hard raving fans. Our blogs are totally up-their-street. They naturally share our content, recommending us as a trusted authority and a leader to their friends and network.
These people are special. You’ll start to notice their names popping up all over the place in your notifications. Acknowledge them and show your appreciation.
We’re living in an era where word-of-mouth is on steroids. @GaryVee
- Leverage an existing tribe
We can also pro actively enlist the help of an existing tribe of like-minded blogging entrepreneurs. These folks understand the value of working together. Leveraging each other’s community to build our blogs. By sharing other tribe members relevant content, our communities will also benefit.
These tribes work on a reciprocal give-and-receive type of basis. Tribe members will comment on our blog posts and share our content out to their social platforms. We do the same, if not for them directly, for other people in the tribe…
Tribes are powerful!
I can’t talk about the power of tribes without sharing with you this fun video about how to start a movement by Derek Sivers (Hint: it takes two.)
Also here is a must watch video from Seth Godin talking about the tribes we lead:
Seth Godin argues the Internet has ended mass marketing and revived a human social unit from the distant past: TRIBES. Founded on shared ideas and values, tribes give ordinary people the power to lead and make big change. He urges us to do so.
Building a tribe for your blog allows you to:
- Reach a MUCH bigger audience than you ever could alone – That’s leverage!
- Plug in to a circle of support that encourages you and keeps you going
- Post new content confidently, knowing that it will be immediately read, shared and commented on
- Get your content all over the social networks, boosting your traffic, social proof and your SEO
This quote from Mother Teresa really sums the blogging tribe movement up for me in a nutshell.
I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples. Mother Teresa
By leveraging the power of tribes, together we can create ripples across the Internet. We can help each other to grow our blogs and businesses and change each others worlds!
There are many ways to build your tribe, let me give you a few steps you can implement yourself today:
#1 Building your email list
Blogging combined with email marketing, is a super way to grow your tribe.
Building a list of people who want to hear from you via email is the first step to building relationships with your readers and growing your tribe. This step is absolutely vital, but often overlooked by newbie bloggers.
The quicker you get people to put their hand up and subscribe to your blog – the better. Make sure you have a strategy to regularly communicate valuable content with your list so they can get to know, like and trust you.
I know from past experience that there’s nothing worse than building a list of people who:
- Have forgotten who you are
- Don’t open your emails
- Unsubscribe when you email so irregularly
Aragh! So frustrating.
But don’t worry…
This is simple to fix with:
- Valuable Communication
NOTE: Don’t just expect people to subscribe to your blog updates.
Put this on your MUST DO list and see your tribe grow over time.
#2 Join a Blog Commenting Tribe
Providing HELPFUL, VALUABLE COMMENTS on other people’s blogs and social media updates can be a great way to attract new visitors to your own, build trust, develop relationships and build a tribe. Plus it’s nice to help each other out isn’t it? The ultimate WIN-WIN.
Blog Comment Tribe – I invite you to join my lovely Facebook community and let’s all help each other grow.
It’s a place where we can all help each other with blog comment love. It was started mainly for bloggers but social platforms have also been added.
Give some blog or social love, tag the people who’s content you shared and other people will do the same for you. Simple. Everything is set out in an easy to follow way, just plug in your valuable content (not sales pitches) and reap the benefits.
Click through and request access – NOTE: I review each request to approve under my own personal criteria. This ensures each person is a good fit for the tribe and to maintain a high quality community. After all, not everyone is a good fit!
#3 Join a Content Syndication Network
Social Buzz Club is a content syndication network based on reciprocity.
They allow members to not only share their own content, but that of their clients as well. This allows members, and member clients to reach audiences otherwise limited by their own social networks.
Members get good content to share that can be targeted geographically or by specific categories.
Viral Content Bee allows you to get Facebook Likes, Twitter Tweets and Pinterest Pins from established social media accounts that are primarily outside of your normal social media channels.
This keep the sharing organic and gives your content REAL social signals! Not only does Google love these types of signals, but it also means more eyeballs on your content.
This type of organic sharing gives your content its best chance to go viral!
Triberr is a social network for bloggers. The idea is to find other bloggers who write about the same topics. These writers group up in a tribe. Whenever one blogger writes a post, the others read, comment and share it with their social networks. Triberr does all the heavy lifting of importing everyone’s latest content, aggregating it in an easy to read news feed, and scheduling sharing through the day.
Pinterest is super hot place for bloggers. Use Group Boards and collaborate with Pinners in your niche to expose your content to more people.
Pingroupie – Find Group Boards on Pinterest with ease.
PinGroupie is a Pinterest group board directory. Easily find group boards to join. Search over 19,000 group boards on Pinterest. Sort them by search terms, followers, or collaborators.
